Fall 2011: I have a new band up and running called Llush! We are best described as a 70s Power Rock Trio!. Check us out on Facebook. Also, still doing lots of recording with Jim and Champ. More big news: Champ performed at the West Virginia Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony a few weeks ago. It will be broadcast on WV PBS Nov. 18th at 9 pm. Also, Dr. Chip Star is back...We're going to complete his 2nd CD for release early 2012!Summer 2011: Working with Jim Klipstein and Champ Zumbrun this summer on their respective CDs. Janice Spiker and her daughter Lincoln Humberson also came up. Lincoln did a very cool vocal demo!4-25-11: Hanna Livingston and Eric Kitchen recorded a demo of "Mountain Thunder". Word is that Del McCoury was diggin' it!4-12-11: The Meeps are currently working on a CD - Very high-energy!3-31-11: Wow, Everyone is back this year to do another CD: The Lake Effect, Dr. Chip Star, and Champ Zumbrun.11-19-10: The Meeps finished up their tune "Camaro". They are going to put it on a Cabana 1 Records compilation album. Very cool!11-14-10: As Structures Burn layed down some rockin' tracks!11-12-10: Took some time off from recording and did some traveling with my sweetie Kedra in Europe (Brussels and Amsterdam). Ready to hit the record button again!10-14-10: Rehearsing the reunited Full Steam Eddy for big reunion weekend and Joey Kight Benefit. Also, rehearsing Monkeybone my new band. Busy, busy, busy...8-20-10: Gear For Sale section is up! Gotta sell some toys so I can get some new toys!!8-11-10: Woo Hoo! Got the new Budger web site up and running.March 2010: Champ Zumbrun released his CD "Allegany County" also recorded at Budger! Champ is a busy man - he is also running for Allegany County Comissioner. Here's his web site. About Me:

Hi. My name is Mark Gowans. I built Budger Records recording studio a few years ago. I guess I got tired of drum kits (and drummers) in my living room. I built this Man Cave in the vegetable garden in my yard. There's something poetic about that.I have had a passion for playing and recording music since I was a teenager. Back then I used two cassette players for multi-track sound-on-sound recordings. I've come a long way since then.Here's a little background info on me: I have been playing guitar, singing, and recording music for most of my life. I have played in countless Western Maryland bands since the late 1970s. I have also had a successful career as an Electrical Engineer for the past 25 years. I've found that my musical and technical backgrounds are a perfect match for the challenges of the modern recording studio. At Budger Records I've tried to encourage an atmosphere where inspiration and creativity easily flow. My job is just to capture it all! About Budger:

So...What is a “Budger?” Well, my father nicknamed me “Budger” when I was a baby. When I was an adult he let me in on the secret of the origin of "Budger." When he was a kid growing up in a small town named Lonaconing Maryland, they played a lot of marbles. He said they always called the big menacing-looking marble that you shoot with your thumb a “Budger.” I guess I looked large, round, and menacing as a small child.Okay, let’s get down to business. Budger Records is located in the scenic mountains of Western Maryland. The studio consists of 1200 square feet of recording space divided into five rooms. The physical dimensions and acoustic treatments in each of these rooms result in a variety of acoustic characteristics that provide recordings with a sense of depth and space. The Control Room and Main Room have a medium-live sound - great for drums. The Live Room and Sound Lock have a very live, reflective sound which works well with acoustic instruments or guitar amps. The Dead Room is acoustically very dead. It is perfect for a dry vocal sound or that dead drum sound we all grew to love in the 1970s. For acoustic isolation, the studio consists of double-wall construction with double layers of sheetrock throughout. Each room is constructed as essentially a room within a room.The heart of the studio is the industry-standard Avid Pro Tools HD Accel system with Apogee A/D converters. I have a large collection of world-class microphones and microphone preamps at your disposal. I also have a collection of new and vintage guitars, basses, and guitar amps. A vintage Rogers drum kit is also set up and ready to record. If you need my help with song writing, arranging, guitar, bass, or vocals, it is all included at no extra charge.
